DSS

The Intelligent Distributed Load Cell, the latest innovation, is a versatile fiber optic system that measures the absolute static load along a single-mode or multi-mode fiber optic cable up to the microstrain resolution level.
The queryer receives a complete strain profile with each laser shot. This means that low-noise strain data can be collected with an averaging time of less than a second. This transformative performance is achieved through the use of a high-precision interferometric optical architecture.

The strain data can be used for a variety of applications, independently or in combination with output from one of the other distributed sensors, such as an acoustic DAS.

Simultaneous data acquisition with DSS and DTS also provides optimal temperature correction for accurate deformation measurements. Without correction, the DSS system will see a temperature change of 1°C as a deformation change of 20με. Adding data from the DTS allows for a deformation resolution correction of up to 2με.

This gradual change in performance is most applicable for long-term monitoring where temperature variations along the length of the fiber may change over time and/or where the strain point is not known in advance.

Advantages:
- Excellent resolution, high speed, absolute strain measurement
- Data integration and temperature correction when used with Silixa DAS or DTS.
